Comparing Arsenal and Liverpool’s start to 23-24 with their last Premier League winning campaign

Both Arsenal and Liverpool have enjoyed eye-catching starts to this Premier League campaign, but how does their record after 14 matches compare to the last time they won the league?

The Gunners currently sit top of the table having taken 33 points from their opening 14 matches. If Mikel Arteta’s side can carry on picking up points at that rate, they will finish the season with 89 points.

Of course, there is still a long way to until the end of the season, but the early signs have been mightily impressive. Having narrowly missed out on the title last season, Arteta will have his eyes on the big prize this time around.

When asked if Arsenal are genuine title contenders in October, Arteta told TNT Sports: “I leave that to you guys, honestly.

“We’re just at the start and we are really happy with where we are and understanding that you cannot control… because emotion is related and the table says what it says but it’s not something we will look at, to be fair.”

On the other hand, Liverpool also have a great shot at Premier League glory themselves. Jurgen Klopp has gone toe to toe with Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on several occasions and this new-look Liverpool side seem to have an exciting unpredictable energy about them.

The Reds have looked prolific in the final third and the likes of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dominik Szoboszlai have been brilliant to watch of late.

In October, Jamie Carragher conceded that it will be tough for Liverpool to win the Premier League this season, but there’s no denying that they are currently in a great position.

“Whether they can go on and win the biggest trophy which is the Premier League – I think that will be tough,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I think that could be something Liverpool could go for next season with a couple more additions. I think Liverpool lack a top central midfield player and maybe another defender.

“Those gaps will be plugged whether that is in January or in the summer. I think they will be better equipped next season to go for the Premier League.”

The last time that Arsenal got their hands on the Premier League trophy was in 2003–04 and Liverpool’s last triumph came in 2019-20. We’ve gone back to those seasons in question and have compared Arsenal and Liverpool’s record to this season.
