Where are they now? The 13 Premier League managers that were sacked during 22-23
A total of 13 Premier League managers were sacked throughout the 2022-23 season and we thought we’d check in on what they are each up to these days.
Football managers aren’t often afforded much time in the modern game and Premier League bosses especially are under huge scrutiny. Paul Heckingbottom is set to become the first managerial departure of 2023-24, following a dismal start with Sheffield United.
We’ve gone back to last season and have checked out where the 13 sacked Premier League managers are today.
In this list, we have included managers who left by mutual consent but haven’t included interim bosses.
Scott Parker
The former Bournemouth boss became the first managerial departure of 2022-23 following a 9-0 thumping by Liverpool. The decision worked out for the best in the end as Gary O’Neil took over and guided the Cherries to safety.
It didn’t take long until Parker secured his next managerial gig, although it was fairly short-lived. The 43-year-old took over Club Brugge in December but was out of a job once again come March.
Having only won two of his 12 games in charge, the Belgian side didn’t wait long until they pulled the trigger. Parker has been out of work since and is still on the lookout for his next job.
Thomas Tuchel
Chelsea haven’t exactly had the smoothest of rides since parting company with Tuchel. The German boss did manage to land on his feet though as he replaced Julian Nagelsmann at Bayern Munich in March.
Tuchel guided Bayern to their 11th consecutive Bundesliga title last season and he is currently battling with Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the table.
He’s also delivered some hilarious post-match interviews.

Bruno Lage
Since leaving Molineux in October last year, Lage spent almost a year out of the game before he secured his next managerial gig. The Portuguese boss secured a job at Brazilian side Botafogo, although his stint was incredibly short.
Large only oversaw 15 matches and was sacked in October following an eight-game winless run. He’s now back on the market and is looking for his next club.
Steven Gerrard
Aston Villa’s rise since sacking Gerrard and appointing Unai Emery has been meteoric. The Liverpool legend spent several months out of the game, doing some punditry work on the side, before he made the shock move to Al-Ettifaq in the summer.
Saudi Arabia have pumped huge funds into growing football in the region and the Saudi Pro League snapped up a few big name managers as well as players during the summer.
Now coaching the likes of Jordan Henderson, Demarai Gray and Georginio Wijnaldum, Gerrard’s side currently find themselves seventh in the table.
Ralph Hasenhuttl
Southampton looked like a sinking ship from the beginning of 2022-23 and Hasenhuttl quickly paid the price. After close to four years of service with the club, Southampton sacked Hasenhuttl in November last year and he has been out of work since.
Frank Lampard
Lampard did a fine job to keep Everton afloat in 2021-22, but he didn’t look like doing the same the following year. Everton pulled the trigger on him in January, with the club sat 19th in the table.
He did manage to land on his feet by landing a short-term interim role at Chelsea, although this probably lowered his managerial stock if anything. The 45-year-old is currently out of work and is on the lookout for his next opportunity.
Jesse Marsch
Marsch came across as a likeable personality, but things quickly unravelled during his second season at Leeds. The club were conceding goals at an alarming rate and pulled the trigger on Marsch in February.
Since his departure, Marsch has been out of the managerial game and has taken up some punditry roles for CBS Sports.
Nathan Jones
The Welsh boss talked a big game at Southampton but struggled to back it up with results. While he did manage to knock Manchester City out of the League Cup, he otherwise struggled at St Mary’s.
Jones has been linked with plenty of Championship jobs since his departure from Southampton but is yet to throw his hat back into the ring. According to Football Insider, he recently pulled out of contention for the Rotherham United job.
Patrick Vieira
Vieira’s sacking at the time was seen as quite harsh as Crystal Palace sat 12th in the Premier League, but an inconsistent run of results saw the board lose faith in the Frenchman.
He has landed on his feet since he secured the Strasbourg job in the summer. It’s been an up-and-down start for Vieira in his new role as Strasbourg currently sit 15th in Ligue 1.
Antonio Conte
Conte’s exit from Tottenham was nothing short of explosive and he has taken some time out of the game since leaving the north London club.
“For now I’m enjoying my family, I made a clear choice when I left England,” Conte said in October. The Italian boss has been linked with several high-profile jobs, but he is yet to commit to a new club.

Brendan Rodgers
It’s a shame how things ended for Rodgers at Leicester. The Northern Irish boss consistently had Leicester punching above their weight, but the Foxes form took a nosedive in 2022-23.
Leicester pulled the trigger on Rodgers in April and ultimately slumped to an 18th-place finish. It didn’t take long for Rodgers to land his next job as he returned to Celtic just a few months after his dismissal from Leicester.
Graham Potter
Potter was considered one of the best managers in the Premier League during his time with Brighton, but his stock did take a significant hit as he struggled to get a tune out of Chelsea’s overcrowded squad.
The 48-year-old has been linked with several jobs since leaving Chelsea in April, but he seems to be carefully biding his time to wait for the right project.
Javi Gracia
Gracia’s short stint at Leeds United wasn’t very memorable. The Spanish boss took charge of just 12 matches before Leeds decided to ditch him in favour of Sam Allardyce.
Gracia has been out of work since his dismissal and is currently on the lookout for his next job.
